Jim Doyle Dunn, 83, of Locust Grove, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He was born on March 9, 1933 in Locust Grove; the son of James Dewey and Myrtle Louise (Tucker) Dunn. Jim married Wilma Van Brunt, and have made a wonderful life together for 61 years. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War, during which was a P.O.W. He received two Purple Hearts during the War; among many other awards and medals. After the Army, he went on to join the United States Navy from 1958 until his retirement on June 1, 1984; where he received the Oklahoma Cross of Valor. Jim has lived in the Mayes County area since 1970, coming from Norfolk, Virginia. He worked most of his life as a serviceman, a trucker for Ellsworth, and owned Dunn Rite Tire in Chouteau. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, picking pecans from his pecan trees and spend time working around the house. He looked forward to spending time with those he loved most, and cherished every minute he had to spend with them. He leaves behind many memories for his family and friends to hold dear and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Jim is survived by his wife, Wilma Dunn of the home; son, Jimmie C. Dunn and wife Kelly of Chouteau, Oklahoma; daughter, Donna Dunn of Pryor, Oklahoma; sister, Norma Jean Johnson of Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Dunn; brother, J.L. Dunn.
