James "Jim" Ferrel Petty passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, in Pryor, Oklahoma. Born on October 6, 1939, in Booker, Texas, Jim led a remarkable life characterized by his unwavering dedication to the agriculture industry and his profound impact on those around him. Throughout his life, Jim's passion for agriculture shone brightly. He dedicated the majority of his working years to the industry and left an indelible mark as the owner and operator of Compass Unlimited, Inc. Jim's hard work and commitment inspired countless individuals within the agricultural community. Above all else, Jim cherished his role as a loving husband and devoted family man. On September 10, 1957, in Coldwater, Kansas, he married the love of his life, Carol Fitzwater. From that day forward, their love blossomed into a bond that would withstand the tests of time. A true friend to many, Jim surrounded himself with loved ones who became an extension of his family. He treasured each moment spent with friends and family members, filling their lives with joy and laughter. His beloved dogs Luke and Mattie were constant companions who provided comfort during both good times and bad. Likewise, Ruger and Wilma—the granddogs—brought happiness into Jim's life. Jim had an incredible passion for sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. It was during his daily devotional sessions on Facebook where he found solace and connection with fellow believers. His unwavering faith guided him through every stage of life and fueled his desire to spread love and compassion. He also enjoyed gospel singing. An evangelist at heart, Jim felt a profound calling to share the teachings of Jesus with others. His words and actions aligned perfectly with his faith, touching countless lives along his path. Jim's sincere desire to make a positive impact on those around him led him to embody the principles he cherished most.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at JbarC Cemetery on Jim's property located at 1421 W. 440 Road Pryor, Oklahoma 74361 with Pastor Eric Troyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m, Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Petty of the home; son, Kip Petty of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter in law, Caroline Petty of Fowler, Kansas; brother; Larry Petty and wife Diane of Protection, Kansas; sister in laws, Betty Maris of Protection, Kansas, Sue Page of Protection, Kansas, Janet Fitzwater and Charley of Enid, Oklahoma, Sandy Hoffman of Coldwater, Kansas, and Dixie Fitzwater of Olathe, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, Sarah and husband Toby Schilling, J.R. and wife Morgan Phillips, L.A. and husband Nate Fraley, Brandy Petty, Danielle and husband Tony Flores, Colt and wife Kimberly Petty, Tyler and wife Melissa Petty, Chase Petty, and Danielle and husband Jared Duvall; great grandchildren, Eowyn, Penny and Lucy Grace Schilling, Haven and Heidi Phillips, Zak and Drake Fraley, Timeri Petty, Raffa, Gabe and Jaxon Flores, Clara Petty, Luke Petty, Layanna Rose and Layne Duvall, and Tristen Petty; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Petty; son, Tim Petty; daughter, Shannon Phillips; grandsons, Ross Petty and Joshua Phillips; son in law, Ryan Phillips; sister-in-law, Nona Fitzwater; brother in laws, John Fitzwater and wife LaRetta; Jack Fitzwater and wife Mary, Bill Fitzwater, Roger Hoffman, Bruce Page, and Zeb Maris.
