Jo Ann Marcy Obituary (2024) - Pryor, Oklahoma (gather.app)Jo Ann Marcy was born on June 4, 1935 to Gertrude “Gert” Sansale Fritchtnitch and Wilbur “Ike” Fritchtnitch.
She grew up in Port Byron, Illinois and moved to Chandlerville in grade school. She had many achievements in school, being a cheerleader and valedictorian of her class to name a few. Jo went on to become a Nurse Practitioner graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1956 then went on to graduate from the University of California, San Francisco in 1975.
Jo married Jack C. Marcy on April 1, 1956, and they were blessed with 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl. The journey took Jo and her family from Illinois to Tennessee, Nebraska, Nevada, Arizona and Oklahoma.
She dedicated her life to nursing working as an RN in Lincoln, Nebraska for Dr. Stewart in Pediatrics. She also worked as an RN in Yerington, Nevada for Dr. Fulstone for Family Practice. After receiving her Nurse Practitioner she worked as the Public Health Nurse in Yerington, Nevada. After moving to Pryor, Oklahoma, she started out working at Eastern State Mental Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma. She ended her incredible career by opening the Geriatric Psychiatric Unit at Claremore Regional Hospital.
Outside of work she had many passions and hobbies, including being an active member in the Methodist Church. Jo was a world traveler with her husband visiting many countries that included Italy, Germany, China, Sweden, Russia, and Switzerland. She also enjoyed writing handwritten notes to her family and many friends.
Jo is survived by her loving sister Judy Mibb and husband Russ; son, Kevin Marcy and partner Abigail Custis of California; son, Brad Marcy and wife Anita of Nevada; daughter, Lyn McKee and husband Pat of Arizona; grandchildren, Alex Marcy and wife Samantha, April Gerow and husband Kevin, and Abigail McKee; great grandchildren, Zoey and Cole Gerow and Griffin Marcy; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Gertrude “Gert” Sansale Fritchtnitch and Wilbur “Ike” Fritchtnitch, her husband Jack, and her brother Jack Fritchtnitch and wife Sue.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, and great aunt, Jo will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all those who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.
