Joan Carman, 91, died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home in Pryor. Born Ellen Joan Perrier on December 25, 1926 near Ochelata, Oklahoma to Peter Nicholas “Nick” and Hester May (DeWitt) Perrier. Joan was married to Dryden Carman of Pryor for over sixty years until his death in 2009.
Other than her deep devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren, she was most passionate about two things: politics and sports. She loved to debate both.
Joan proudly held the position of Secretary of the Mayes County Election Board for many years. She was a member of the Democrat Party, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Methodist Church.
Joan was preceded in death by granddaughter Kalli Carman, daughter-in-law Becky Carman, brothers Wayne Perrier and Hubert Perrier.
Joan is survived by sisters: Frances Lane of Vinita, Oklahoma, Janie Canada of San Angelo, Texas, and Ovene Prine of Langley, Oklahoma. Children: Grace Ann and husband Jack Harrison of Claremore, Hubie Carman and wife Martha of Afton, Wayne Carman and wife Connie of Pryor, DanDe Carman and wife Kim of Oklahoma City, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any charity in memory or Joan Carman.
Joan’s passion for life will be celebrated at a memorial visitation at Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018. A private interment will be held at a later date.
