Joe Gorley

Joe E. Gorley, 82, of Pryor, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on January 8, 1929 in Sudan, Texas, the son of Frank Gorley and Linnie (Thompson) Gorley. Joe was an All State football player his senior year at Seminole High School. He married Dorotha McGahan, on January 25, 1951 in Seminole, OK. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary. God gave Joe the opportunity to serve Him in many ways. Whether serving at church or on a softball field he touched so many lives. He loved sports, especially playing golf and fast pitch softball, where he was a great pitcher. Joe loved working with and mentoring youth. Joe served as Administrator and Senior Adult Minister at First Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He moved to the Pryor area 16 years ago. There he served as Administrator at First Baptist Church in Pryor, Oklahoma. His unconditional love for others changed many lives. He was an avid OU fan. It didn't matter the sport or how successful the team, he loved the Sooners. Joe lived a life of dedicated service, showing Christ's love to others in everything he did and always giving God the glory. He left a legacy for others to follow and made the path clear until we meet him again. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Shawnee with Reverend Hance Dilbeck officiating. Honorary Bearers are Ron Reiser, Kenny Hayes, Phil Trussler, Scott Trussler, Mike Little, Rocky Wade, Sam Garlow, Gene Gorley, Don Gilleland, Andy Martin, Jeff Trussler and Matt Blair. Joe is survived by his wife, Dorotha Gorley of Oklahoma City, OK; his two daughters, Sherri and husband, Mike Gamel of Oklahoma City, OK and Stacy and husband, Sam Jones of Eucha, OK; one brother, Bud Gorley of Ardmore, OK; three grandchildren, Lynsey, Keara and Evan; one great grandchild, Addie; many other relatives and friends.
