Joe Ned Payton, 78, of Pryor passed away on Sunday March 13, 2011 at his home near Pryor. The son of Austin Ora (Hayes) Payton was born on June 15, 1932 in Beland, Oklahoma. Mr. Payton worked for the Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas. Joe and his friend, Tom Henderson owned and operated their Barber Shop in Hayesville, Kansas. He was a very talented musician. Joe played the mandolin during his Bluegrass era, then switched to the fiddle and played with many different Country Western bands. He operated the Pryor Fish Hatchery for 10 years. He loved to build fiddles violins, one of which was played in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Until his health failed he was very active. Joe loved gardening, growing watermelons cantaloupe. Joe loved going to Thomas' Restaurant with his special friend Sherman Taft every morning to have coffee with "the boys" and solving the problems of the world. He will be missed by his family and many friends who each have their own special memories. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday , March 17, 2011 in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel in Pryor, Oklahoma with Rev. Garry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Pryor with Military Honors presented by the Air Force Honor Guard. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. till 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Casket bearers will be Austen Brooner, Chris Theobold, Jess Theobold, Austin Curtis, Wesley Pangborn, Colton Hill. Honorary Casket bearer Chase Tucker. He was preceded in death by; his Parents; his Brother, Jack; his Sister, Juanita the mother of his children Mary Payton.
