John Grossman

Obituary for John Ben Grossman, 66, passed away on June 24, 2016 at his home in Pryor. The son of Alva Walter and Mary Magdlen "Lena" Grossman, he was born July 5, 1949 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended school in Chouteau, graduating Chouteau High School in the class of 1967. He attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, graduating in 1972 with his Bachelor's Degree in Education. John taught school and coached basketball at Justus School in Claremore for a few years. He married Terri McGuffin Kinion on June 10, 1988. John obtained his license as an electrician and was employed with GRDA where he retired in 1996. In 1997 he worked in Alaska and Algeria as a contracted electrician before retirement. John loved sports, especially OSU Basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and his favorite team, the Chicago White Sox. He competitively played chess. John was a beautiful songwriter and wrote his own book, The Gravel Roads. He loved to spend time with family and friends, enjoyed watching his grandkids in all their activities. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mark Catholic Church on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. To leave the family a message of condolence please see his Book of Memories at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. He is survived by his wife, Terri Grossman; daughters, Roxanne and husband, Jacob Ailey, Rachael and husband, James Cavin; Brandy and husband Chad Littlefield; 10 grandchildren; sister, Loretta Gates of Catoosa, OK; brothers, Pat Grossman of Chouteau, OK; Dr. Bill Grossman of Rogers, AR, Frank Grossman of Chouteau, OK; 21 nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Lena Grossman; 2 brothers, Alvie Grossman Jr. and Fred Grossman along with 2 twin infant brothers and one nephew, Robert Grossman.
