Broken Arrow

John Kelly Ward, 63, of Broken Arrow, passed away on February 12, 2025. He was born on March 3, 1961, in Houston, Texas, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. John had a passion for cooking and shared his talents as the evening manager at JL’s BBQ, where he worked for eight years. His love for good food was only matched by his love for the simple joys in life—watching birds, especially the juncos, cardinals, and goldfinches, casting a line while fishing, and spending time in nature. John shared a beautiful journey with his beloved husband, Daniel Lee Edwards. After a long and loving relationship, they married on November 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in Des Moines, Iowa, solidifying their bond in a ceremony filled with love and joy. A true adventurer at heart, John found joy in traveling and camping in their RV, making cherished memories with his family and their camping group. He especially treasured the time spent with his beloved dog, Majerle, who was always by his side. Music played a special role in his life, with Queen and disco being among his favorites. He lived by the word believe, a sentiment that reflected his optimistic spirit and deep appreciation for life’s moments. John’s warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the meals enjoyed, and the love he gave so freely.

John is survived by his husband, Dan Edwards of the home; step sons, Shane Edwards and wife Megan of Oologah, Oklahoma and Derek Edwards and Heather Kennedy of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; brother, Kevin Ward and wife Teri of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sisters, Cathy Austin and husband Eddie of Boatman, Oklahoma, and Patty Bark of Salina, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Cambry, Cale, Sean and Hunter; many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Jeanna Ward; and brothers, James and Bryan Ward.
