John Osland

John August Osland, 77, of Pryor, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at his home in Pryor. He was born on March 21, 1939 in Grand Forks, North Dakota; the son of Walter and Dorothy (Barenscheer) Osland. John worked in the Electronics industry most his life. In the fall quarter of 1957 he attended the Mayville State Teacher's college, and then in the fall quarter of 1961 attended the North Dakota State School of Science, earning his associate degree in Electronics. In the spring of 1963, he worked in Cedar Rapids, IA at Collins Radio as a electronic tech for five years. In the fall of 1968 he returned to the North Dakota State College of Science to teach in his field for 20 years. After teaching, John went to work for Sigco Research, which eventually changed names to Mycogen Seeds, where he worked for 10 years. After retirement, he went to work for Richland Organics, working in their lab, for the fall harvest. He loved photography and John Deere Equipment. He looked forward to receiving his Green Magazine in the mail. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and the joy they brought him. He married Susan Larson on June 1, 1985 in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Hatton, North Dakota, and together has made a wonderful life both in North Dakota and Pryor. John looked forward to spending time with family and each visit he would get with them.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Pryor with Reverend Roger Parker officiating. John is survived by his wife, Susan Osland, of the home; sons, Steve Osland of Fargo, North Dakota and Korey and wife Esther Berg of Springfield, Virginia; daughters, Jodi and husband Jim Vance of Tulsa, Oklahoma , Alicia Porter of Stoddard, Wisconsin, and Jamie Berg of Fargo, North Dakota; brothers, Walter and wife Jan of Bison, Oklahoma, Richard Osland of Bison, Oklahoma and Douglas and wife Karen of Mayville, North Dakota; sister, Julie Garrett of Fargo, North Dakota; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Osland and daughter, Rebecca Osland.
