John Swearengin

John Richard Swearengin, 81, of Salina passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011. John was born September 22, 1929, in Boatman, the son of James "Ped" and Laura (Pruett) Swearengin. He was a carpenter by trade and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #943. In the 1970's John was a member of the Salina School Board for 5 years. John enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He was crazy about OU Football but loved all kinds of sports. John was an avid bird watcher and built unique birdfeeders. He loved his family and Blue Springs Church and will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 20, 2011, at 10:00 am in the Bryan Chapel Cemetery, Boatman, Oklahoma, with Reverend Lorne Beck officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers are Damon Swearengin, Lance Swearengin, Paul Watt, Ped Watt, Blake Swearengin, Brandon Swearengin and J.P. Watt. Survivors include his wife Mildred Swearengin; one son, John Vincent Swearengin and wife Cheryl Jean of El Dorado, AR; one daughter, Robin Watt and husband Jerry of Salina, OK; four grandsons, Damon and Lance Swearengin and Paul and Ped Watt; seven great grandchildren, three boys and four girls; one brother, Hiram Swearengin of Pryor, OK; two sisters, Mary Whiteis of Salina, OK and Laura Hendricks of Lincoln, AR. John was preceded in death by his parents, James "Ped" and Laura Swearengin; two brothers, James and Joe Swearengin; two sisters, Rosa Mae Jameson, and Margie Schroeder; and one granddaughter, Cassie Watt.
