Johnny Dodson

Johnny Lee "Tooter" Dodson was born August 12, 1950 in Boatman, OK to Everette Dodson Sr. and Vera Mae (Armstrong) Dodson. He departed this life on January 6, 2016 in Tulsa, OK with his family by his side after a courageous 2 year battle with Sarcoma Cancer. Johnny married Linda Phillips on May 10, 1969 and to this union was born a Daughter Angela Dodson and a son Kevin Dodson. Johnny lived in Mayes County all his life. Johnny was a General Contractor and owner of Mustang Construction Services. Johnny was also a rancher who enjoyed caring for his cattle and watching his grandsons show cattle. Johnny was a very hard worker who at the age of 13 started working in Peach orchards and Dairies in California to help his widowed mother support his younger brother and sisters. Johnny continued this work ethic throughout his life. Johnny was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Johnny loved and enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was working cattle with them or having a meal. Johnny will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Johnny was baptized on Palm Sunday 2015 and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. Johnny was a 32nd degree Mason and a past member of the Carpenters Local 943. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the First Freewill Baptist Church in Pryor with Reverend Rick Condit and Reverend Andy Nichols officiating. Interment will be in the Chouteau West Cemetery with Charles Dryden, Mark Bair, Stan Matlock, Herb Hammer, Danny Stewart, Rick Turney, Bob Stricklen, and Kelly Brown serving as casket bearers. Serving as Honorary Casket Bearers will be Clint Gardner, Gary Littlefield, Dennis Stephens, Reggie Pavey, Wesley Martin, Jason Nichols, and Johnny Nichols. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Johnny is survived by Linda his wife of over 46 years; Daughter, Angela Dodson of Claremore, OK; Son Kevin Dodson and wife Jill of Pryor, OK; Grandsons Hunter Parsons & Reece Dodson; 3 Brothers, Jack Dodson & wife Kaylynn of Welch, OK; Everette Dodson Jr. & wife Judy of Boatman, OK; Kennith Dodson & wife Debra of Salina, OK; 6 Sisters, Margaret Elwess & husband Sam of Modesto, CA; Maxine Scoggins of Claremore, OK; LaFonda Phebus of Wichita, KS; Vickie Dodson of Pryor, OK; Trevetta Storie & husband Van of Charlotte, NC; Letitia Burrow & husband Frank of Locust Grove, OK; honorary family members Clint Gardner of Salina, OK & Mattie Johnston of Pryor, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Everette Sr. and Vera Mae, brother Donnie, his father in law and mother in law, W.K. & Delta Rae Phillips.
