Judy Ann Burchfield, a beloved mother, sister, Nana, and friend, was born on November 2, 1959, in San Jose, California. She left this world on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Claremore, Oklahoma, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and an indelible impact on all who knew her.
As an adoptee and a birth mother herself, Judy dedicated much of her life to advocating for those in adoption. Her passion for helping adoptees and birth mothers was unparalleled; she worked tirelessly to facilitate searches and reunions, providing her own experiences as a source of understanding and support. Her commitment to open records, allowing individuals access to their original birth certificates, highlighted her belief in the importance of identity and connection.
Judy was also known for the inspiring role she played in Narcotics Anonymous, where she touched countless lives with her unwavering encouragement and her testimony of resilience. Her warmth and compassion made her a beacon of hope for many navigating their own challenges.
In addition to her advocacy work, Judy was affectionately known as "The Candle Baker." For many years, she delighted in making candles and crafting wax-dipped bears from her home, filling the lives of those around her with warmth and light. Each creation was a testament to her creativity and love, reminding all who received them of her thoughtful spirit. She had a love for Mt Dew, sunflowers, ladybugs, and corgis for many years and a current love of watermelon gum and quesadillas.
Judy is survived by her three loving children: daughter, Leila Troyer and husband Eric of Adair; daughter, Alyssa Bruce and husband Tyler of Pryor; and son, Logan McCoy of Oklahoma City. She also leaves behind her birth daughter, Allyson Crow and husband Nathan. Judy cherished her sister Jody Hilinski and held dear her grandchildren: Abby, Maggie, Cady, Hadlee, and Cameron Troyer; Kayd and Kian Bruce; and Trista and Alaynnah McCoy; as well as Ezra Huntley. Her family extended to include in-laws, EJ and Billie Cox, stepsiblings, Mike, Nan, and Debbie, and birth siblings, Maryanne, Tim, Steven, and Bill. She will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Marty Burchfield, whose love and partnership she treasured. She was also welcomed to eternity by her parents Laura, Leo, and Norma Hilinski; her birth parents, William and Roberta MacDonald; her birth brother, John MacDonald; and stepsiblings, Kay Crump and Rob McGrath.
