Julia Spencer Ayres, 84, of Locust Grove, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at her home. She was born on August 16, 1931 in Havana, Cuba; the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Meyer) Spencer. She worked as a homemaker most of her life; enjoying the time she spent raising her 4 children. Julia had a passion for art. She was a published author; writing print making books and art articles for magazines. Julia was a well - known artist and would have many of her pieces in Art Shows. She enjoyed painting with all types of media including oils, watercolors and monotypes. Julia was honored to be highlighted in the Oklahoma State Capitol building with her Art on display among the Who's Who in Oklahoma. While Julia was an accomplished painter; she also enjoyed working on pottery, photography and bird watching. She looked forward to traveling and seeing new sights and when she was home from travel, she would enjoy the Pryor Rec Center for Yoga, swimming and senior stretching. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Chouteau; she enjoyed getting together with the ladies and visiting. Julia was also proud of her active involvement in the Ovarian Cancer Society; an organization which was near and dear to her heart. Most of all, Julia loved her family. She cherished each moment she had to spend with each and every one of them. She leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 in the First Church of God in Pryor with Reverend Andrew Rehbein officiating. In Lieu of flowers, Julia asked that donations be made to The Building Fund for The First Church of God, or to The Pryor Ministries Center, or to The Pryor Arts and Humanities Council for an Art Scholarship fund in the name of Julia Ayres. Julia is survived by her sons; Robert Ayres and wife Debra of Springdale, Arkansas; William Ayres and wife Glory of Redding, California and Clark Ayres and wife Melody of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter, Gail Ayres of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sisters, Jean Kline of Rye, New York, Joyce Spencer of Newton, Massachusetts and Ginny Adams of Newton, Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Ayres and her parents, Robert and Ruth Spencer.
