Karen Jean Rex

Karen Jean Rex, 68, of Big Cabin, Oklahoma passed away on June 17, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on October 30, 1954, in Dayton, Ohio to Edward and Deloris (Boyd) McKellar. Karen worked at Wanda and Luther’s Drive-in located in Adair for several years. She was also a dedicated homemaker for most of her life.

Karen had an array of interests that kept her engaged in her free time. She loved painting and puzzles and enjoyed diamond art and building models. Her love for the outdoors led to fishing and traveling adventures with her family.

Family meant a great deal to Karen, both the loved ones she grew up with as well as those she came to cherish later in life. Karen is survived by her husband Gerald Rex of Big Cabin, OK; sons, Jerry Rex of Big Cabin, Oklahoma, Eric Rex and wife Marlina of Locust Grove, OK, and Michael Rex and wife Kara of Springdale, AR; daughter, Elizabeth Jones and husband John of Big Cabin, OK; brothers, Edward J. McKellar of Vinita, OK, Michael McKellar of Gainesville, TX, and Dale McKellar of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Sue Getter of Georgia; as well as eight grandchildren Jordan Jones, Amy Jones, Karina Rex, Nathan Rex, Matthew Jones, Karma Rex, JJ Rex and Dexter Rex. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Deloris McKellar; and sister, Anita Sheverdicker. 

Services honoring Karen will be held at Utopia Southern Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Eric Troyer officiating. Interment will follow at Ghormley Cemetery with Jerry Rex, Eric Rex, Mike Rex, Matthew Jones, John Jones, and Jason Miller serving as casket bearers. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Shipman's Funeral Home.
