Kathryn Venamon

Kathryn Venamon, 93, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Friday, March 19, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Kathryn was born on April 16, 1927, in Pryor to John and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Locke) McArtor.  She graduated from Pryor High School in 1945 and then worked for Southwestern Bell telephone company in Tulsa. On January 27, 1950, she married the love of her life, Ralph Venamon, and they were blessed with a daughter and a son.  Kathryn loved her family more than anything, spending time with them and attending their activities was what she most treasured.  She enjoyed babysitting and playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, aerobics, golf, cross-country skiing and reading. Kathryn was a lifelong member of Pryor First United Methodist Church and prepared funeral meals for many years.  She was a Pink Lady volunteer in the gift shop at the Pryor hospital.  Her sister, Mary, came to live with her later in life and they cherished this time together for over 30 years. Kathryn and Mary often traveled together, especially enjoying the fall foliage bus tours.  Kathryn will be lovingly remembered for all the wonderful memories she created and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Suzie McNair and husband Bobby of Pryor and Paul Venamon and wife Karen of Bartlesville; grandchildren, Amy Mullen and husband Jeremy, Mandy Douglas and husband Jerry, Todd Venamon and wife Stacey, Brett Venamon and wife Kara, Ashley James and husband Justin, Kyle Venamon and wife Alyssa, and Andrea Blower and husband Bradley; great grandchildren, Blake, Cason, Maddie, Kane, Braelynn, Avery, Matthew, Ayden, Ellie, Carter, Kate, Michael, Brooke, and Brooks; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie McArtor; husband, Ralph Venamon; brothers, Bill McArtor, Charles McArtor, John McArtor, and Tom McArtor; and sister, Mary Porterfield.

Memorial services for Kathryn will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021, in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Masks are optional to attend.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
