Leo Lloyd Boney, 76, of Salina, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1946 in Salina; the son of Joe Boney, Sr. and Lydia (Wickliffe) Boney. Leo faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 until 1968 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He married Dorothy Davis on March 17, 1981 in Miami, Oklahoma and they have celebrated 42 years of marriage. Leo was proud of his military service and was awarded the Medal of Patriotism and the Warrior Award from Cherokee Nation. He also was a first language fluent Cherokee Speaker. He worked as a bus driver for Salina Public Schools for over 20 years and also worked in the road construction industry and as a concrete finisher. Leo was strong in his faith and was an ordained Baptist minister and was a member of the Ribbon Baptist Church in Spavinaw. Leo also pastored several churches in the Cherokee Baptist Association and was a mentor to young ministers and liked to do outreach ministry. He loved to share God’s word and to teach the gospel to anyone he came in contact with and especially loved giving words of advice and encouragement to anyone he talked with. Leo enjoyed watching basketball, football, boxing, and loved to listen to all types of music and play his guitar. He was a godly man, loving husband, father, and grandfather and leaves behind many memories for his family to remember.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2023 in the Ribbon Baptist Church in Spavinaw with Reverend Stanley Grass officiating. Burial will follow in the Euwasha Cemetery with Greg Boney, Todd Boney, Tim Boney, Roy Boney, Jr., Johnny Jumper, Sr., and Josh Jumper serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Mark Pritchett, Jason Boney, Esiah Boney, and Joshua Boney. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor. The family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice for their care of Leo. Leo is survived by his wife, Dorothy Boney of the home; son, Jason Boney of Salina, Oklahoma; daughter, Rose Pritchett and husband Mark of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Esiah Boney, Jaslyn Boney, and Joshua Boney; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Boney, Sr., and Lydia Boney; brothers, Richard Boney, Albert Boney, Andrew Boney, Tom Boney, Joe Boney, Jr., Roy Boney, Sr. and sister, Willeen LeFlore.
