Leon Hurst, 78, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma passed away September 15, 2019 at his home. Leon was born August 6, 1941 in Coal Hill, Arkansas. He was the seventh child of Gus Hoyt and Elizabeth (Obrien) Hurst. Leon married Linda Day on May 18, 1961 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. They have celebrated 58 years of marriage. Leon worked 41 years at Yuba Heat and Transfer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping trips to Colorado. He had a great love for kids and especially babies. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2019 in the St. Mark Catholic Church in Pryor with Father Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in the Hogan Cemetery with Shawn Hurst, Brian Hurst, Patrick Hurst, Joe Lovett, John Williams, and Tim Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Pilmaier, Randy Grossman, John Brosky, and Bob Ackerman. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019 in the St. Mark Church in Pryor with Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. To leave his family a message, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Leon is survived by his wife, Linda Hurst of the home; son, David Hurst of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughters, Debra McDonald and husband Mike of Yukon, Oklahoma and Darlene Howey and husband Eric of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Leon had nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Lovett of Catoosa, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents, sisters, Augusta Williams, Clara “Midge” Smith, Wilma Walker, and Frances Barros; and brother, Lawrence Hurst.
