Leroy "Pete" Vaughn

Leroy “Pete” Vaughn, 85, of Locust Grove, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at his home. He was born on February 20, 1937 at home in Proctor, Oklahoma; the son of James and Susie (Redbird) Vaughn. He went to school and graduated in the Locust Grove Class of 1956. Pete worked for the local Union most of his life, working as a Union Pipefitter. He was a lifetime resident of Locust Grove and enjoyed tinkering around his home, especially when he was able to mow until his health prevented it. He married Elsie Pearl Bluebird and they celebrated many years of marriage until her passing in 1994. Pete also looked forward to reading, working word search puzzles, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports, and was always ready to watch a good western on television. He was a loving, caring and hardworking man who leaves many memories for his family to remember.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Doug Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the McClain Cemetery with Kevin Vaughn, Ace Bluebird, Cheyenne Vaughn, Jaron Vaughn, Marty Fleming, and Blake Parker serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Billy Bluebird, Otis Downing, Allen Lee Davidson, Galveston Bluebird, Bill Bluebird, Sr., Kase Ingram, Jimson Bluebird, and Kawliga Colvin. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2022 at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor. Vaughn and wife Tammy of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; daughter, Merle Downing and husband Otis of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; sister, Janie Fleming and husband Homer of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Amber Kirk, Jason Kirk, Ema and Blake of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Micah Kirk, Cheyenne and Cecia of Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Jaron and Makayla of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 10 great grandchildren, Kase, Rylee, Preslee, Jaxon, Chett, Oak, Carter, Morgan, Lexon, and Knoxtyn; special friend, Barbara Payne of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Susie Vaughn; wife, Pearl Vaughn; brothers, Woodrow, Jim and Earl Vaughn; and sisters, Edna Downing, Bessie Vaughn, Doodie Stoneburner, and Ella Griggs.
