Lewis Ross

Lewis Levi Ross was born on August 9, 1941 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Stan Mary Ann (Arneecher) Ross. He passed away on January 1, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 69. Lewis was a lifelong resident of Salina of Mayes County. Lewis graduated from Salina High School in 1962 and was voted the "Most Quiet". He also faithfully served his Country in the U.S. Army. Lewis became an ordained Southern Baptist Minister in 1973. He pastored many churches including Ribbon, New Jordan, Green Leaf, Twin Oaks, Coo-Y-Yah, Illinois River Baptist and Sycamore Springs. After his retirement from the Cherokee Nation he stepped down as full time pastor and rejoined Twin Oaks Baptist Church. Lewis was married to Ruth Lee Buckskin on April 10, 1965 in Salina, Oklahoma. Ruth preceded him in death on April 2, 2002 after 37 years of marriage. Lewis enjoyed family friends, and watching his family play sports but most of all he loved his church families very deeply. Reverend Ross will greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 6, 2011, in the First Baptist Church of Salina with Rev. Charlie Shell Rev. Richard Pickup officiating. Burial will followed in the Ross-Mayes Cemetery in Salina, Oklahoma with George Pickup, Jerry Dry, Tuffy Kingfisher, Gil Hooper, Todd Dowty and Richard Budder serving as casket bearers. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel in Pryor on Wednesday evening. He is survived by 4-Sons; Randy Dale Ross, Salina, OK, Stanley Brandi Ross of Leach, OK, Nolan Jamie Ross of Salina, OK, Buddy Ross of Salina, OK;4-Daughters; Kim Buckskin of Canon City, CO, Cheryl Craig Castle serving as Missionaries in Indonesia, Sallie Ross Leva Ross both of Salina, OK; 1-Brother Randolph Loretta Ross of Locust Grove, OK; 17-Grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Lewis was preceded in death also by his parents, 3-Brothers, Nolan, Stan Jr. Jackson Ross; 1-Sister, Leva Cheryl Ross; 1-Great Grandson, Brett Owens Rogers.
