Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Kenneth Jacks, 84, of Pryor, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2013 in Pryor. Ken was born October 13, 1929 in Hobart, Oklahoma, the son of Mary Jane (Amis) and ER Jacks. He came to Pryor in the 8th grade and played football in his High School years. Ken was an All-State fullback, and was Pryor's first consecutive 1000+ yard rusher his junior and senior years. He graduated in 1947 and was president of his senior class. He later played fullback for the Pensacola Goslings Navy football team. The Goslings beat Army, Navy, and West Point the year that Ken played. He went to Naval flight school in the first class of Jet Aviation. Ken flew over 100 combat missions in both Korea and Vietnam, earning 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star with V for valor, and 8 air medals. After 21 years as an aviator in the USMC, he retired and went to Oklahoma State University, and finished with a 4.0 GPA. Ken then went on to Tulsa University and completed his Masters Degree. He spent 28 years teaching Sociology, Marriage and Family, and Criminal Justice at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. Ken was twice elected teacher of the year by the student body. He served as Youth Director of First Baptist Church for 3 years and was Deacon for 45 years, serving as both Chairman and as Deacon Emeritus. Ken will be remembered as an outstanding Bible teacher, teaching young men for over 50 years. He was revered by the men who sat under him, many who now teach Bible classes themselves. Ken was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, his country, his church, and his family. He was a hero, husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral services for Ken will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 in the Life Fellowship Church with Reverend Keith McCarter officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington Nation Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia with full military honors. Casket bearers will be Ron Reiser, Roger Randleman, Preston Keesee, Rodney Darnell, Joe Mike Bacon, and Ken Fields. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Lee Kiesel, George Littleton, Scott Horton, Burl Graves, Larry Larmon, Bill Stovall, and Clay Rice. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Ken's name to Lottie Moon through the Life Fellowship Church Pryor. Ken is survived by his wife, Janie of the home; 4 children, Pat Gent & husband Tom of Harrah, Becky Johnston & husband Craig of Edmond, Scott Jacks and wife Stacy of Pryor, and Jon Jacks and wife Jennifer of Moore; 1 sister, Mary Lou Back, 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Susan; his mother, Mary Jane; his father, Reverend ER Jacks, former pastor of First Baptist Church Pryor, and his brother Bob.
