Major Hastings

Major H.E. "Gene" Hastings, 78, of Salina, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at his home in Salina. He was born on May 24, 1939 in Denver, Colorado; the son of Viola Hastings. Gene faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1951 until 1983. During his time in Korea and Vietnam, he earned two purple hearts and a bronze star, among many other medals and accommodations. He also worked as a military police officer, Joplin, Missouri Police Officer, and a marine recruiter for several years. He also owned a trucking company and had 8 semi-trucks. He had also owned 2 restaurants and an antique store. After being discharged from the Marine Corps, he married Patsy Pritchett on July 20, 1985 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Gene enjoyed being outside; he was an avid fisherman and loved being on the boat. He liked to mow his yard and be outdoors. Gene loved to tinker in his garage and was always working on inventing something. He had even been paid for his inventions sometimes by various places he had worked. Most of all, Gene loved spending time with his family and cherished each moment he had with them. He was a proud marine, wonderful father and husband, who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in the Ross - Mayes Cemetery in Salina with Pastor Tim Estes officiating. Casket Bearers will be Ethan Hastings, Jarred Littlefield, Jacob Berry, Dustin Berry, Jared Berry and John Littlefield. Honorary casket bearers will be A.J. Shanahan, Steven Littlefield, William Littlefield, Rick Lane, J.P. Littlefield, David Rhodes, Wesley Joe Rhodes, Aaron Arnold, Dennis Berry, Andrew Littlefield, Peter Littlefield, Jason Reynolds, Darrick Rhodes and Wyatt Ball. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in the First Baptist Church in Pryor. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service.

Gene is survived by his wife, Patsy Hastings of the home; sons, Robert Hastings of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Travis Hastings and wife Melissa of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Jerri Rose Berry and husband Dennis of Gravette, Arkansas; step son, Robert Littlefield and wife Deloris of North Little Rock, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Viola Hastings; son, Rory Hastings and daughter, Bonnie Hastings - Shanahan.
