Maudie Mae Angeline Gwartney Peters, 90, of Pryor, Oklahoma departed this life to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at her daughter's home where she was cared for by her devoted daughter and son-in-law. According to scripture, she left her earthly body and was immediately with the Lord in Heaven. Maudie was prepared to depart this life, and even left final instructions for the disposition of her personal effects, monetary items and other belongings. Her instructions were simple: don't fuss! Maudie was born on April 16, 1920 in Tiawah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles and Ola Gwartney. She married Roy Peters and made their home in Pryor, Oklahoma. Maudie worked as a school cook, preparing wonderful meals for the children for 15 years, retiring in 1981. During her life Maudie was an avid member of the First Church of God in Pryor, Oklahoma. It was there that she showed her true faith and commitment to her Lord by asking for his salvation and obeying his teachings by following the Lord in believer's baptism. Maudie made her choice in 1960, and she never looked back. On Mother's Day in 1968, she was baptized with her Mother and her Granddaughter Bobbie; the same day her son Jim left for the Navy. Believing that God was all she needed, she found her life's purpose and boldly proclaimed it. She lived her life walking in God's light and trusted him completely. Her devotion did not go unnoticed as she countlessly gave of herself and her time to her Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and devout prayer warrior. She was part of the First Church of God's Women's Missionary Group for 64 years and President for 16 years. She was a member of the Cole Home Extension Club for 65 years, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the WCG, Women of Church of God Missionary Group. She followed His teachings by first instilling her faith in her children, taking them to church with every chance she could get. His example, though she may not have realized it at the time, would later span generations. Maudie was proud to know that many of her children and grandchildren were following her example in churches throughout the country all because she planted the seed in her children. Most of Maudie's life was spent on her knees in prayer interceding for those in need. Her prayer, however, was that her life would preach her funeral. For those of us that know her, it is apparent that her prayer was and will forever be answered. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren and all those who came into contact with her. Though she may be gone, she will never be forgotten. On a piece of folded paper, she left one final instruction to her children and grandchildren: I pray that my life will preach my funeral - my children and grandchildren can finish up my life. Funeral Services for Maudie will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, December 20, 2010 in the First Church of God in Pryor, Oklahoma, with Reverends Andrew Rehbein and Reverend Ken Gable officiating.
