Melvin Leroy Kingfisher, 61, of Chouteau, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home. He was born on July 9, 1957 in Claremore, Oklahoma; the son of Steve and Maggie (Ballou) Kingfisher. Melvin had a bright personality and enjoyed visiting with his friends and family. He looked forward to working on cars and drawing. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially when he was hunting and fishing. Melvin was a member of the New Jordan Baptist Church in Salina He leaves behind many memories for his friends and family to remember. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2019 in the New Jordan Baptist Church in Salina with Reverend Stanley Grass officiating. Burial will follow in the Grass Cemetery with Virgil Kingfisher, Vernon Kingfisher, James Kingfisher, Steven Kingfisher, Wesley Rhodes, and Ben Keener serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Nelson Kingfisher, Jon Foreman, Berry King, Blake Stricklen, Shawn Kingfisher, Jesse Beck. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Melvin is survived by his brothers, Nelson Kingfisher and wife Kay of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Virgil Kingfisher of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Vernon Kingfisher of Chouteau, Oklahoma, and James Kingfisher of Chouteau, Oklahoma; sisters, Caroline Kingfisher of Chouteau, Oklahoma, and Evelyn Kingfisher of Chouteau, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steve Kingfisher and Maggie (Ballou) Kingfisher, and sister, Agnes Kingfisher.
