Mildred Cowan

Mildred Irene Cowan, 91, of Pryor, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 in Tulsa. She was born on January 31, 1928 in Cherokee Central, Oklahoma; the daughter of James Hezekiah Iiams and Zula Myrtle (Carter) Iiams. Mildred married the love of her life, Chester Carl Cowan on February 9, 1946 in Sageeyah. She has lived in the Pryor area for the last 12 years, coming from Locust Grove and Chelsea. She attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Pryor and Cornerstone Outreach in Locust Grove. Mildred worked as a homemaker all of her life, lovingly raising her 4 children. She had many hobbies, with her favorite being, riding in a car, with anyone, going anywhere. Mildred also enjoyed cooking, especially when she was making pies and working crossword puzzles. Some of her favorite hobbies in her younger years were cooking, sewing, ceramics, gardening, and canning. She looked forward to time spent with her family and cherished each moment she had with them. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother and caring grandmother who leaves behind a lifetime of memories for her family to cherish.

Mildred is survived by son, Dale Cowan and Colleen Cowan of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; daughters, Janice Trickett of Pryor, Oklahoma and Rhonda Guinn of Pryor, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Zula Iiams, husband, Chester Cowan, son, Jim Cowan, and son in law, Burl Trickett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in the Cornerstone Outreach Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma with Pastor Rick Kiddy officiating. Burial will follow in the Chelsea Cemetery with Brandon Cowan, Justin Cowan, Joshua Daily, Mark Armontrout, Dwight Osten, and Bryan Morgan. Honorary casket bearers will be Gary Guinn, Darrell Osten, Logan Kern, and Justin Thomas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral Home.
