Mildred Marie Walsh, a beloved member of the community, has passed away at the age of 87 on November 14, 2023, in Chouteau, Oklahoma. Mildred will be remembered for her selfless nature, her love for music, and her dedication to church and family.
Born on May 8, 1936, Mildred had a vibrant and fulfilling life. She dedicated her adult life to serving the First Baptist Church in Gila Bend, Arizona in multiple capacities including Junior High Sunday School teacher, choir member, treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and organist. She also served Mazie First Baptist as pianist for almost 20 years. In addition, she was a hardworking professional and spent 23 years of her life serving others as a valued employee of the United States Postal Service. Mildred had a
passion for music and used her abilities by playing the piano and organ, singing, and encouraging others to join in.
Outside of church, music and work, Mildred cherished spending time with her family and friends. Known for her warm smile, welcoming nature, and nurturing heart, she loved nothing more than creating beautiful memories with her loved ones. Her children and grandchildren, including those she fostered and “adopted,” held a special place in her heart.
Mildred’s hobbies and interests were diverse. She enjoyed gardening, playing dominos, and was an avid sports enthusiast with a particular love for baseball. But above all else, she found true joy in being in the company of her children, grandchildren, and friends.
As we bid farewell to Mildred, we cannot forget to celebrate some of the accomplishments that brought light to her life. In high school, she showcased her athleticism by playing as a guard for the Chouteau basketball team. She was a self-taught pianist getting her first instruction from her elementary school teacher. She provided affordable housing and selfless service to countless elderly in her rental properties in Gila Bend, always having a soft spot in her heart for those who were alone.
Mildred’s circle of family and friends was truly blessed to have known such an extraordinary woman. She leaves behind memories in the hearts of many who loved her dearly. Mildred is survived by; sons Ricky Lee Walsh of Chouteau, John Edward and wife Joni Walsh of Douglas, WY; daughters Deborah Jo Maust of Mazie, Kathleen Jepson of Chouteau, Rebekah and husband John Myrin of Chouteau; sisters Betty J. and husband Lloyd Thurman of Prairie Grove, AR, Barbara J. Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters-in law Trinidad Henry, Margaret Henry, Joyce Walsh and brother in-law JD Walsh; Sister by choice Delores Watson and Brother by choice Russel Pierpont; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Henry Walsh; parents, Floyd Munrow and Minnie Mae (Porche) Henry; sister Laura L. Dyches; brothers Issac Munrow Henry, Orvall Henry, Floyd Junior Henry, and Bobby Henry.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Shipman’s Funeral & Cremation Service located at 1204 N.E. 1st St., Pryor, OK. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the Mazie First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with Pastor Andy Herring officiating. Burial will follow at the Chouteau North Cemetery in Chouteau, OK.
Mildred was a beacon of love and kindness in our lives. She touched the hearts of everyone she encountered with her selflessness and unwavering dedication to God, family and community. As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the life she lived and strive to follow in her footsteps of generosity and compassion. We know where her soul is today. May she rest in peace.
