Mildred E. Whitlock, 93, of Adair, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019 in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was born on December 26, 1925 in Stroud, Oklahoma; the daughter of DeWitt and Maude (Hamon) Baker. Mildred graduated from Vera High School. She went on to earn her Masters Degree in Education and attended OSU, OU, and TU, and lastly NSU. Mildred taught school for 31 years and was the principal of Ketchum Public Schools for 19 years. She also taught girls basketball at Vera Public Schools and taught at Berryhill Public Schools. She worked at Adair Tag Agency in 1985 and was the Mayor of Adair for 16 years. Mildred worked in insurance sales for 10 years at Horace Mann Insurance and was the Bookkeeper for Spinnaker Point for 38 years. She was a charter member of the Adair Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Oklahoma Educators Association and a member of the First Baptist Church in Adair. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and through the years was involved in many other organizations. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with those she loved most. She loved people and helping those in need. She leaves behind many wonderful memories for her family and friends to cherish.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2019 in the Adair First Baptist Church in Adair with Dr. Dan Lewis and Pastor Sam Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ketchum Cemetery with Bill Mitchell, Johnny Janzen, Chris White, Michael Fraley, Brian Whitlock, Greg Whitlock serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Charles “Chas” Henry, Brett Harrison, Russel Kruse, Chell Propp, and Jim - Bob Hendrickson. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Karen Mitchell and Bill Mitchell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sons, Kenny Whitlock and wife Angela of Pryor, Oklahoma and Keith Whitlock and wife Bobbi of Roswell, New Mexico; 1 sister, Wilma Clark of Houston, Texas; 5 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, DeWitt and Maude Baker; brother, Frank Baker; sister, Rilda Wolf; and 1 great granddaughter, Remington Ann White.
