Mitchell Riley Upton

Mitchell Riley Upton, 42, of Chouteau, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023. He was born on June 21, 1981, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to David Sexton III and Terri Upton. 

He was a faithful member of the Chouteau First Baptist Church and had a great love for the Lord. One of Mitchell's proudest accomplishments in life was being a devoted father to his daughter, Riley. He loved taking her to watch ballet at the Performing Arts Center, watching her cheer, and taking her to the zoo. Mitchell's love for his daughter knew no bounds, and his presence in her life will forever be treasured.

Mitchell was also a dedicated employee as a Laser Operator and spent his career working for Hasty Bake. Mitchell leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family. His memory will always be held dear in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. 

He leaves behind many friends and family members who will miss him dearly. Mitchell is survived by a great number of relatives and friends. His surviving family includes his daughter, Riley Upton; special mom, Jennifer Carnahan and uncle Dave Carnahan of Chouteau, OK; cousins, Chris and Casey Carnahan, and Blake Carnahan; aunt, Kathy Fleming and uncle Randy Fleming; cousins, Andrew and Tasha Fleming, Nicholas Fleming, and Chelsea and Aaron McBride, aunt, Lizzie Rigsby and cousins, Daniel and Mona Lyons, Matilyn Rigsby, and Tricia and Jason Miller; aunt, Patty Higgins, and cousins, Brendan Higgins, Emily Higgins, and Kaitlyn Higgins; aunt, Becky Sexton, and cousins, Justice and Courtney Sexton; many nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored; and special friends, Cory and Meagan Nicholas, Josh James, and Donnie Cox.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David Sexton III and Terri Upton; paternal grandparents, David Jr. and Dorothy Sexton; aunt, Dana Curtis; uncle, Mike Curtis; and friend, Brant Burrow.

Funeral services for Mitchell will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Chouteau, with Reverend Cory Nicholas officiating. Burial will follow at the Chouteau West Cemetery with Chris Carnahan, David Carnahan, Andrew Fleming, Daniel Lyons, Nicholas Fleming, and John Curtis serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers include Brendan Higgins and Justice Sexton. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor.
