Nancy Gale "Gundy" Littlefield Obituary (2023) - Pryor, Oklahoma (gather.app)
Nancy Gale Gundy Littlefield – surrounded by her family, passed from this life on Monday, March 20, 2023, in Salina, Oklahoma. She was born August 29, 1935, the first daughter of Melvin & Maxine (Venable) Gundy. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Morningside Hospital, now called Hillcrest Memorial. She grew up in Tulsa and Oklahoma City and graduated with honors from Crooked Oak High School in Oklahoma City. Following one of her many passions, Nancy then started nursing school. She met the love of her life, Paul Dean Littlefield, in Oklahoma City and they married on February 18, 1956, and soon started their family. They eventually moved back to Pryor, hometown of Paul, and grew their family to a total of six while both working full-time jobs. Nancy was a “take charge” kind of gal and her family learned this very quickly. She worked at Cherokee Togs as a seamstress, Grand Valley Hospital as an emergency room check-in clerk, and later Fabricut as a cutter making bedspreads. Once retired, she became a full-time, immaculate housekeeper and gardener helping with Paul’s acre-size garden for the next 36 years. She was an expert at processing and canning all of the vegetables they grew in their well-recognized garden. In 1974, the family built and moved into their brand-new home in the Cole Community. Pursuing another passion, Nancy began her love of flowers and started growing beautiful hydrangeas, hostas, peonies, and an endless assortment of Irises. She was no stranger to stopping and asking for samples out of a complete strangers’ garden or flower bed. Those Irises still grow beautifully today and are spread around her and Paul’s Garden. Nancy had a small circle of friends that gathered every Thursday to quilt. She became very talented with her quilting techniques and loved every minute of doing it, but probably more so the information she gathered weekly around that quilting frame. Her finished product was something she was always so proud of. Nancy enjoyed all kinds of sports and particularly loved watching her grandkids in their individual sports. She followed softball, soccer, baseball, and her favorite- basketball, which she enjoyed playing in high school. Nancy’s life was full of family and feeding others. She always wanted to make sure everyone had a plate of food at her house. She leaves us with a wonderful legacy of working hard, keep life simple, and family is most important.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Tonda and husband Clay Rice of Pryor; son Ray and Pam Littlefield of Locust Grove; and son Dale Littlefield of Pryor; brother Ray Gundy of Midwest City; and sister Carol Canfield of Meeker. She has eleven grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Maxine Gundy, brother-in-law Butch (Earl) Canfield, son Paul Wayne Littlefield, sister-in-law Judy Gundy, husband Paul (Popeye) Littlefield, and other loved family members.
