Ned Kingfisher

Ned Kingfisher, 86, of Salina, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Pryor, Oklahoma. He was born on March 27, 1937, in Mayes County, Oklahoma, to Claude and Betty (Pickup) Kingfisher. On February 26, 1956, he married Ruth Grass. 

Ned was known for his dedication to his career as a roofer. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and ensure their well-being. His commitment to his work was admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Outside of work, Ned had various hobbies and interests. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed going fishing. Additionally, he found joy in playing horseshoes, dominoes, and bingo. These activities allowed him to relax and share quality time with family and friends.

Another significant aspect of Ned's life was his fluency in the Cherokee language. His ability to speak Cherokee made him an important part of preserving the cultural heritage of his community. 

Ned Kingfisher is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Betty Kingfisher; brothers Mike, Clarence, and William; sister Geneva; as well as grandchildren Matt and Jeremy Kingfisher.

In addition to his wife Ruth Kingfisher of Salina, Ned is survived by his children: Shirlene and Ed Reano of Pensacola, Sandra Williams of Kenwood, Danny and Cathy of Salina, Jeffrey and Lisa of Miami, Phyllis and Fred Buss of Salina, Sonny and Sissy Kingfisher of Salina, and Peachy Kingfisher. He is also survived by his sister Alice James of Siloam Springs; brothers Dale Kingfisher and wife Sally of Colcord, Floyd Kingfisher and wife Rhonda of Salina, and Kevin "Skinny" Kingfisher and wife Louise of Pryor; Aunt Lou Lewis and husband Yazzie of Salina. His legacy lives on through his 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Ned Kingfisher's impact extended beyond his immediate family. He formed lifelong friendships, one of which was with Anna Mae Russell of Pryor. Their connection brought joy and laughter to Ned's life, and their friendship remained strong throughout the years.

Funeral services for Ned will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023, in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Buddy Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Grass Cemetery with Bryce Proctor, Jerrett Kingfisher, Keegan Kingfisher, Randy Ross, Chris Johnson, and Maurice Smoke serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers include Boo Ingle, Billy Kirby, Kevin Kingfisher, and Charles Plemmons. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel.
