Nelson S. Chupp, 71, of Chouteau, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on February 3, 1950 in Bremen, Indiana; the son of Samuel Chupp and Barbara (Bontrager) Chupp. He attended school in Breman until he was 9 years old. Nelson married the love of his life, Martha Detweiler, at her home place in Inola, Oklahoma, on October 30, 1969. Together, they had 4 children: Keith, Jeanie, Joanne, and Barbara Sue. For most of his life, Nelson was a farmer and dairyman. He was a member of Zion Mennonite Church for many years and taught the married couples Sunday School class as well as volunteered with their Prison Ministries program. Before being disabled, Nelson enjoyed coyote hunting and fishing. For several years, he also was a taxi driver for the Amish community. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed but leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family to cherish.
Services for Nelson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2021 at Eden Mennonite Church. Visitation will also be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Eden Mennonite Church. Nelson is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home; son, Keith Chupp of Chouteau; daughters, Jeanie Bartel of Hillsboro, Kansas and Joanne Ogg and husband Mark of Federal Way, Washington; sister, Clara Bontrager and husband Bill of Wellman, Iowa; grandchildren, Bethany Chupp, Heaven Zegarzewsky and husband Kyle, Seth Bartel and wife Abby, Jacob Chupp and fiancé Becca, Hannah Bartel, Jena Ogg and fiancé Wyat, Valarie Ogg, Amanda Bartel, and Emma Bartel; great grandchildren, Linley Chupp and Troy Wade Burrell; brother in law, Fenton Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Barbara; daughter, Barbara Sue; and sister, Lydia Miller.
