Opal Kathryn Carter, 78, of Salina, went to her heavenly home on Monday, January 18, 2021 in Pryor, Oklahoma. She was born on July 28, 1942 in Stringtown, Oklahoma; the daughter of John Vernon Conn and Bessie Kathryn (Golden) Conn. Opal married the love of her life, Sam Carter, on June 21, 1960 in Lamont, California. Together, they started their church, Sleepy Hollow Hill House of Prayer and devoted their lives to the Lord. She taught the gospel and read the word of God. Opal had many talents, such as singing; she had a beautiful singing voice. She could also play the guitar and other musical instruments. In her pastime, she enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets. Above all, Opal loved the Lord and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed but leaves behind many wonderful memories for her family to cherish.
Services for Opal will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2021 at Sleepy Hollow Hill House of Prayer with Reverend Sam Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Ross Mayes Cemetery with Wayne Lane, Virgil Lane, Justin Lane, DJ Carter, Michael Wilson, and Daniel Woolman serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Justin, Gordon, Kayleb, Matthew, Daniel, Joshua, Landen, Kadin, and Issac. Visitation will be held at the Carter Home on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To leave her family a message, please visit her Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Opal is survived by her husband, Sam, of the home; daughter, Loretta Lane Lockett and Husband William; son, Sam Carter and wife Jerry Lynn; son in law, Jerry Lane; grandsons, Jerry Lane, Virgil Lane, Justin Lane, and DJ Carter; granddaughters, Vanessa Wilson, Loretta Woolman, Lynsey Lane, and Samantha Carter; great grandchildren, Justin, Gordon, Kayleb, Breanna, Matthew, Daniel, Joshua, Larenia, Opal, Landen, Kylie, Kadin, Bella, Isabell, and Issac; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie; daughter, Donna Jewel Lane; brothers, JL, Junior, George, and Paul; sisters, Maxine and Margaret; and son in law, Gordan Lane.
