Otis Whipkey

Otis "Ray" Whipkey, 59, of Salina, Oklahoma, passed away on January 20, 2013 at his home in Salina, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Ross-Mayes Cemetery in Salina, Oklahoma with Eric Banner, Minister officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the American Legion in Salina. Ray was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Charles "Otis" and Pauline Mossier Whipkey on March 11, 1953. He graduated from high school in 1971 in Leedy, Oklahoma. He married Tina Collins on September 9, 1990 in Salina, Oklahoma. He worked as a welder for many years and was most recently employed at Pelco in Claremore, Oklahoma. Ray was a brilliant musician, he played bass guitar and was a vocalist for the local band Phat-Phly with his wife Tina and friends; Dustin Shook and Terry Delk for several years, starting in the late 1990's. Ray is preceded in death by his wife; Tina Kay Collins Whipkey, his parents; Otis and Pauline Whipkey, and his sister and brother-in-law; Marlene Whipkey Tillman and Robert Tillman. Ray is survived by his son Chris and wife Beth of Oologah, Oklahoma, daughter Heather and husband Larry Barry of Salina and daughter Tasha Teague of Pryor, sister Barbara and husband Charlie Dryden of Pryor, sister Diane and husband Joe Deardurff of Gurnee, Illinois, six grandchildren; Jordan, Cherish, Tawney, Cassie, Trevor and Brendan, along with a number of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to The Ray Whipkey Memorial Fund at the Red Crown Credit Union PO Box 910 Pryor, OK 74362.
