Paul Laverne Sherman, 83, of Pryor, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 20, 1934 in Anderson, Missouri; the son of Raymond P. and Hildred (Rearrick) Sherman. Paul married the love of his life, Minnie Faye Cooper on January 24, 1951 in Anderson, Missouri.
In 1968 Paul bought the Foremost Dairy Distributorship and moved his family to Pryor, Oklahoma from Joplin, Missouri. He ran the business until 1976, then he sold it to his son Ray Sherman so that Paul could fulfill his dream of starting a restaurant. He and his wife Minnie founded Sirloin Express, which became an icon in the community. His signature chicken fried steak was well known throughout the area. More importantly, his business provided jobs for many people and gave them opportunities to learn strong work ethic and values. Paul sold the restaurant and retired in 1988. During his retirement, he was active with the First Church of God and volunteered with the American Red Cross. He enjoyed fishing and traveling around the country with his wife Minnie.
He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. His influence as a caring man extended beyond his family, and many around the community knew him as "Papa." Those who knew Paul came to find him a loving man, a faithful friend, and a strong example of commitment to family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, a joy for life, and devotion to family.
