Ray Hampton

November 26, 1913 — March 9, 2015

Ray "Buck" Hampton, 101, of Pryor Creek, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Buck grew up on the family farm on the Grand River in Mayes County. He was one of 15 children. Buck was also a member of the US Army in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He and his entire family moved to California in 1936, where he worked picking oranges and lemons, and then later work at Holly Sugar. He married Emma Aylean White in 1939 and was married for 71 years. During WWII he helped build B17's at Douglas Aircraft. Along with other family members, at various times, owned a concrete business, a skating rink, a cleaners, and finally worked in the heating / air conditioning business and sheet metal industry, in which he retired from. He and his wife moved back to Oklahoma in 2004. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, camping, fishing, golfing, and eating lunch out (especially with the crowd at Eastside Café in Pryor). Buck also looked forward to watching westerns on television, working in the yard, and watching Angels baseball and OU football games. He was Cherokee and since moving back to Oklahoma, he enjoyed getting to know his Cherokee brothers and sisters. He leaves behind many memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in the First Christian-Presbyterian Church. Buck is survived by his children, Rodney Ray Hampton of Pryor Creek, Oklahoma and Linda Sue Jajosky of Springfield, Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Laura Morgan and Sarah Coogan; one great grandchild, Riley Emma Morgan. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hampton, and wife, Emma Aylean Hampton.
