Raymond McGirt, 89, of Pryor, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born on July 14, 1924 in Lamar, Oklahoma; the son of James and Wisey McGirt. Raymond graduated from the Moss High School. He joined the Army after high school and proudly served his country. He loved to watch basketball and football. Raymond served as a minister in the Lamar area for over 6 years. He was very proud of his Creek Indian Heritage, and could speak and write in Creek. \Funeral services for Raymond will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2013 in the Exciting S.E. Baptist Church in Pryor with Rob Pierce officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Billy Parham, Denny Hokit, Mark Roberson, Eric Troyer, Rob Pierce, and Harold Bible serving as casket bearers. A wake service will be held in Lamar, Oklahoma at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the Shipman Funeral Home Chapel. He is survived by his wife, Paula McGirt of the home; 1 son, Bill and wife Sandi of Lamar, Oklahoma; 3 daughters, Deb McGirt of Lamar, Oklahoma, Betty and husband John Delso of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Wisey and husband Thomas Givens of Okemah, Oklahoma; 1 step - son, Sam and wife Kathy Richardson of Strang, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lydia Smith and 1 grandchild.
