Retta Imogene Crawford, 94, of Pryor, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Pryor, Oklahoma. She was born on August 23, 1926 on the family’s farm in Boatman, Oklahoma; the daughter of Monroe and Theodora (Walker) Grigg. Retta married Billy Joe Crawford on December 30, 1949. On April 1, 1967, Retta opened her first clothing store on South Adair Street, which started her career in the retail industry for over 40 years. After opening her first store, she opened another store, The Villager and The Guys Shop. She also started clothing stores in Claremore, The Clothes Closet and The Villager. Retta and Bill were members of the First Baptist Church in Pryor and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially working in the yard and tending to her flowers. She also loved bowling and was active in a league for many years. Retta looked forward to traveling with Bill and friends in their motorhome, as well as family camping trips to Colorado. But most of all, Retta loved spending time with her family including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Retta leaves behind many memories for her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lorne Beck officiating. Burial will follow in the Graham Memorial Cemetery with Larry Crawford, Jr., Billy Crawford, Jerry Day, Frank Sourjohn, Aaron Reed, and Amos Duncan serving as casket bearers. Retta is survived by her sons, Rodney Crawford and wife Nancy of Emporia, Kansas; Gary Crawford and wife Shelley of Salina, Oklahoma; and Larry Crawford of Pryor, Oklahoma; Eight grandchildren: Suzanne Duncan and husband Amos, Melissa Crawford, Carrie Reed and husband Aaron, Ashley Sourjohn and husband Frank, Larry Crawford, Jr. and wife Julie, Billy Crawford, Lindsey Crawford, and DyAna Bush and husband Adam; Eight great grandchildren: Charlotte and Annabelle Duncan, Jackson and Ella Reed, Adalynn and Grayson Sourjohn, Hudson Crawford, and Luna Bush; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Crawford, parents, Monroe and Theodora Grigg; grandson, Drew Erickson Crawford; Eight siblings, Essie Meador, Ora Bewley, Artie Thornton, Virgie Craig, Earl Grigg, Bert Grigg, Bonnie Day, and Twin Brother, Ray Grigg; and special niece, Phyllis Norman.
