Robert Sibley

Robert E. Sibley, 87, of Pryor, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on November 26, 1928 in Muskogee, Oklahoma; the son of Robert H. and Cordelia (Standley) Sibley. Robert graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy with his High School Diploma on Friday, January 25, 1946 in Claremore, Oklahoma. After graduation, he enrolled in the University of Arkansas. At the University he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, Beta Zeta Chapter and a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Xi Chapter. He graduated from the University on Saturday, February 3, 1951; earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Between 1950 and 1952, Robert served with the 45th Division in Korea; earning a Silver Star. Robert was 23 at the time of his discharge in July 1952. He served with the 179th infantry regiment first as a platoon commander and later as a company commander. He advanced to the rank of first lieutenant in March 1952 and was transferred to headquarters and given command of a company. He owned and operated Sibley Oil Company and worked in Oil wholesale most of his life. In Robert's later years, he developed a love for the stock market. He would spend many days watching CNBC and enjoyed investing in stocks. He was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed helping them anytime he could. Robert also looked forward to meeting his buddies for coffee at Thomas Restaurant, in the round corner booth every morning. Above all, Robert loved his family. He cherished each moment he had to spend with them. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Robert will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 a.m., until 12:00 p.m. No formal services are planned at this time. Robert is survived by his wife, Jean of the home; son, Robert S. Sibley and wife Kathy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughters, Linda Sherman Wood and husband Charlie of Frisco, Texas and Kyle Anderson and husband Steve of Lexington, South Carolina; step sons, Bruce Taylor of Palm Beach, Florida and Brent Taylor and wife Janees of Pryor, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cordelia Sibley and his sister, Jane Wilkerson.

No formal services are planned. Visitation will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
