Ruth Burke

Ruth Irene Burke 82 of Pryor passed away on February 21, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The daughter of John Alice (Brown) Holliman, she was born on May 29, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ruth moved to Pryor in 1995 from Salina, Oklahoma. She was married to LaVelle "Sparky" Martin Sharp, he preceded her in death in 1974. After his death she began working for the Whitaker State Children Home as a house parent before retiring in 1982. Ruth had also worked for Park Hill Nursing Home in Salina, and also had served as past worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ruth met and married Mr. C.H. Burke in 1978 in Salina. They traveled together making many trips to Alaska, and just enjoying life, until his death in 1989. She loved working jig saw puzzles and spending time with her daughter grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor. Rev. Derek Melton will officiate and burial will follow in the Ross-Mayes Cemetery in Salina with services under the direction of Shipman's Funeral Cremation Service of Pryor. The family will receive visitors on Thursday evening from 6p.m. till 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. OK; three great grandchildren, Marie Catherine Nicholas, Xander Kaiden Hitchcock Xerek Nicholas Hitchcock; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her infant Daughter Diana Louise Sharp and her parents.
