Ruth Cook

(Nancy) Ruth (Yount) Nave Cook, 92, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 in Salina, Oklahoma. She was born to Mary (Archer) Young and Frederic A. Yount in Centerville, Iowa on June 30, 1920. At the age of 8, the family moved to Mexico, Missouri where she attended Mexico High School through her junior year. She worked in the family's grocery store during her school years and also taught tap dancing, which she especially enjoyed teaching first grade children. She graduated from Miami, Oklahoma High School in 1938 and later attended Oklahoma School of Accounting in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On February 1, 1948, she married Samuel Edward Cook at the First Methodist Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. Nancy had worked many years as a Secretary for Arthur J. Devlin in the Mayo Building. In 1949, the Cooks built a motel (Rancho-tel) in Rogers, Arkansas. After her husband was called back to the Navy, they lived on Bainbridge Island, Washington until Sam went overseas. In the mean-time, Nancy was payroll manager for a large incinerating plant at Rogers, Arkansas. The Cooks moved back to Tulsa after Sam's discharge and she worked 15 years for Market Administrator's Office, while her husband worked at Douglas. She retired in 1969 and they built a home in Surfside Addition on Lake Hudson in Pryor, where they spent 30 wonderful years. They moved to Savannah Park in Pryor in 1999. They had celebrated over 60 years of marriage. She was a lovely lady who will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Andrew Rehbein officiating. She is survived by one half sister-in-law, Debbie Roden of McAlester, OK; her many Friends at Savannah Park in Pryor, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents, Frederic and Mary Yount.
