Ruth Holt

Ruth Holt, 97, of Spavinaw, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 in Pryor. She was born on July 4, 1918 in Dallas, Texas; the daughter of George Samuel and Bessie Ruth (Little) Bays. Ruth graduated from the Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1936 and went on to attend Tulsa University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Arts and majored in Music. Ruth was also a member of the Tri - Delta sorority at Tulsa University and was always willing to help in the community when she was needed. She taught school age and high school choir in Spavinaw, Strang, Ketchum, and Collinsville for many years. She married Wayne Clifton Holt, Sr., in the Tulsa Methodist Church in 1943; raising two children, Eleanor and Wayne Clifton, together. Ruth also worked at Cinch making electric motors and O'Brian's Chicken Plant in Jay. Ruth attended the Spavinaw First United Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed participating in church functions and playing the piano and organ for different church services. Ruth was a hard worker and cherished the time she spent raising her children, and her dogs at home. She often would take in stray dogs and gave them a loving home. She was a lovely lady who will be remembered always for the size of her heart and her willingness to always help others. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the Spavinaw - Strang Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Gay of Pryor, Oklahoma; and 1 granddaughter, Melissa and husband Steve Bertlino of Austin, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Holt, Sr., her son, Wayne Clifton Holt; her parents, George and Bessie Bays; and brother, George Bays.
