Samuel Cook

November 7, 1925 — November 18, 2010

Samuel Edward Cook of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on November 18, 2010 at the age of 85. The son of Delbert Carlye (Eversole) Cook, he attended school in Ft. Smith Arkansas and graduated from Stigler High School. He entered the United States Navy at the end of WW II and trained in electronics with the Navy. Sam trained at various schools including University of Colorado, University of Idaho and the University at Bainbridge Island, Washington. He was then sent to Japan for 2 ½ years. He was united in marriage on Feb. 1, 1948 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Miss Ruth Yount. After returning to the states, he built the Rancho-Tel Motel in Rogers Arkansas in 1949. He then worked for Smith Paint in Joplin as Credit Manager. In 1951 he was recalled to service for the Korean Conflict. After the war he returned to Tulsa and began working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, retiring after 18 ½ years. They moved to the Lake Hudson area in 1969 and where he worked for Grand Valley Hospital as Chief Engineer retiring in 1987. He and his wife Nancy moved into Pryor in November of 1999. Sam was a 32nd degree Master Mason for over 50 years. He was a member of the Will Rogers Methodist Church in Tulsa. Sam loved traveling, gardening and his beloved cat Mr. Tiger. Sam will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 in the Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pryor with Reverend Wayne Collins officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa with John Dodge, E. J. Cox, John Poe, John Blevins and Leroy Sellers serving as casket bearers. Sam is survived by his wife Nancy Ruth of the home, 1-brother: Dr. Jerry Bailey and wife, Regina of Texarkana, TX; half brother; Tommy Cook of McAlester, OK; 1 sister; Hattie Dean Kemp of Albuquerque, NM; 2 half sisters; Debbie Roden of McAlester, OK, Peggy Sue Yeilding of Little Rock, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Caryle Cook; his father and step mother, Delbert Cook Olga Ann Cook.
