Sylvia Maslen

April 10, 1926 — September 2, 2017

Sylvia Zella Maslen, 91, of Pryor, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Tulsa. She was born on April 10, 1926 in Hilltop, Arkansas; the daughter of Alf and Jewel (Binam) Burnett. In her early years during the war, she worked as a riveter at Douglas Aircraft and then went on to work as a House Mother for Whitaker State Home in Pryor. Zella married Willie Maslen on January 26, 1946 in Oswego, Kansas and together raised 4 children. She was a lifetime member of the First Church of God in Pryor and enjoyed volunteering with her Church and at the Pryor Ministries Center. She was also on the board of the Pryor Historic Museum and volunteered her time there as well. She loved to travel, bake, work in her garden and sew. Zella was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family and cherished the moments she had with them. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy for her family and friends to cherish.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 in the First Church of God in Pryor with Reverend Andrew Rehbein officiating. Burial will follow in the Bryan Chapel Cemetery with Patrick Maslen, Peter Marshall, Richard Gulotta, Brandon Kerr, Joey Porter and Trent Brewer serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Zella is survived by her sons, Mike Maslen and wife Susan of Pryor, Oklahoma and Thomas Maslen and wife Mickie of Pryor, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Shavonne Jacobs, Alexis Jones, Shannon Kerr, Torey Marshall and Patrick Maslen; 3 great grandchildren, Everett Kerr, Logan Marshall, and Donovan Kerr; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Maslen, parents, Alf and Jewel Burnett, 2 daughters, Mary Jones and Cynthia Elaine Wilde; brother, Lewis, and sisters, Pauline and Fern.
