Vernie Scott

Vernie Ronald Scott, 71, of Big Cabin, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home. He was born on July 7, 1941 in Leedy, Oklahoma, the son of John V. Scott and Edith Louise (Stoll) Scott. Vernie married Frankie Louise Wheeler on August 21, 1961 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma and made a wonderful life together. Vernie worked at and managed numerous Safeway and Homeland Stores retiring in 1990. In 2002, he retired from the Vinita Public Schools after many years of service as Maintenance Superintendent. He loved to fish and have family and friends over for fish fry's. He was a jack of all trades and built the house they lived in. He enjoyed sports, excelling in basketball and baseball. In later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He also read numerous western books. Vernie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be remembered in all the wonderful memories he has left behind. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in the Utopia Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Thorman and Reverend Lynn Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Ghormley Cemetery with Kyle Skinner, Steven Wilson, Kermit McGinn, Wayne Allen Carter, Jimbo Woodall and Karson McGinn serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Cameron Johnson and Landon Johnson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The family asks memorials be made to the Utopia Baptist Church Building Fund at 11275 N. 441 Road, Big Cabin, Oklahoma 74332. He is survived by his wife, Frankie of the home; his mother, Edith Louise Scott of Pryor, OK; his children, Tad Franklin Scott of Big Cabin, Oklahoma, Shana Renee Johnson of Vinita, OK and Christy Lee Scott of Big Cabin, Oklahoma; brother, Kieth Scott of Columbus, NB; sisters, Carol Shipman of Sedgwick, KS and Lorene England of Pryor, OK; seven grandchildren, Kyle Skinner, Samantha Skinner, Cameron Johnson, Landon Johnson, Steven Wilson, Alexis Scott and Morgan Scott; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John V. Scott; his brother, Verdell Scott.
