William David "Choogie" Soldier III, 50, of Spavinaw, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 in Oaks, Oklahoma. He was born on May 16, 1966 in Claremore, Oklahoma; the son of William Soldier Jr. and Brenda Sue (Standingwater) Smith. He attended Salina High School. He worked as a drywall installer and home repairs for Raincrow Construction. William loved anything with horses; riding, breaking them, shoeing, and training. Some other favorite things he enjoyed was bull riding, fishing, crawdad hunting and shooting pool. He also enjoyed watching movies and some of his favorite was; Urban Cowboy and 8 seconds. He was of the Baptist Faith of the Snake Creek Baptist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and son and cherished each moment he had to spend with them and looked forward to family gatherings. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017 in the Blue Springs Church in Salina, Oklahoma with Lorne Beck officiating. Casket bearers will be Norman Roberts, Sonny Looney, Bobby Arneecher, Clifford Littledave, Romeo Martinez and Chris King. Honorary casket bearers will be Forrest Gardner, Kevin Backwater, Sundance Soldier, Brent Soldier, Brian Duncan Soldier Jr., Bobby Rogers, Robert "Gene" Soldier, Chad Foreman and Benjamin Bastida. Wake service will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. William "Choogie" is survived by his mother, Brenda Sue Smith of Oaks, Oklahoma; father, William Soldier Jr. of Salina, Oklahoma; son, Tyree and wife Tonya Grasshopper of Oaks, Oklahoma; daughters, Kimberly Soldier of Hawaii, Tasha and husband Romeo Martinez of Cane Hill, Arkansas; brothers Kerry "Brian" and wife Michelle Soldier of Salina, Oklahoma, Cody and wife Shannon Soldier of Salina, Oklahoma; sisters, Suesawn Soldier of Twin Oaks, Oklahoma, Jessica Dawn Soldier and companion Billie Hardman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Star and husband John Raper of Pryor, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Terry and Jessie Standingwater; paternal grandparents, Bill and Sally Soldier; uncles, Charles Dean Billey, Mike Vaughn, Donald Soldier and Richard Soldier; aunts, Shirley Billey, Teresa "Gaye" Egbert, Flora Soldier and Mabel; cousin and best friend Frankie Taylor and Penny Leach.
